Kennel Club of Philadelphia's generous donations, Crufts is back

Bravo to the KENNEL CLUB OF PHILADELPHIA on the more-than-generous donations to four worthy organizations. The club is donating $100,000 to each of the four, for a total of $400,000. The four dog-related organizations are the AKC REUNITE ADOPT A K-9 COP MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM, UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE, TAKE THE LEAD and the AKC CANINE HEALTH FOUNDATION. Again, a major kennel club leads by example, opening its treasury to improve the lives of dogs and people in our community. ...

Entries have closed for the upcoming CRUFTS DOG SHOW, and people are making arrangements to travel to England after a year’s absence. After last year’s cancellation due to the Covied-19 pandemic, exhibitors and spectators alike are eager to attend. The entry is huge by any standard except for that of CRUFTS, which normally attracts 20,000 plus each year. This year the entry is lower, as there are some who are still cautious when to comes to attending such large events. Still huge, the biggest breed entries in each group are Gundog, 458 Golden Retrievers; Hounds, 382 Whippets; Working, 140 Bernese Mountain Dogs; Terrier, 306 Staffordshire Bull Terriers; Toy, 223 Pugs; Utility, 202 Dalmatians, and Pastoral, 253 Border Collies. On the other end of the spectrum, there is one Turkish Kangal Dog and one Foxhound. Back for the first time in 124 years is the Harrier, joined by first-time competing participants the Smooth Faced Pyrenean Sheepdog and the Hungarian Pumi. ...

Back home, MEET THE BREEDS is back on track with its scheduled appearance at the Tampa Convention Center on April 23 and 24. ...

While attending the dog shows in Illinois this past weekend, TERRY SMITH had to undergo emergency intestinal surgery. Fortunately, it was caught early and there is no permanent damage. All of us at DOG NEWS send our very best wishes for a speedy recovery. ...
