Philadelphia scores some big numbers, entries close for AKC's flagship Florida show

Next weekend’s KENNEL CLUB OF PHILADELPHIA closed with 1,866 dogs entered. This show continues to grow in size, as it does in stature. Videotaped, the show will be televised on Thanksgiving Day following the MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE on NBC. ...

Just a reminder that the KENNEL CLUB OF PHILDELPHIA/TAKE THE LEAD party will be held Friday evening. Contact TAKE THE LEAD for tickets. ...

Entries closed this past Wednesday for the AKC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW, one week earlier than their companion shows. ...

While we are on the topic of closing dates, the deadline for submitting a petition to run for the board of directors of the American Kennel Club is Wednesday, November 15. In addition to the three delegates nominated by the nominating committee, there has been one petition submitted, and that was from LAURIE MAULUCCI, the delegate from the South Windsor Kennel Club, one of the 50-odd clubs that hold their show at the Springfield fairgrounds. ...

This week friends gathered in Bowmansville to help ERNEST LARA celebrate a decade birthday surrounded by his mentors PETER GREEN and BETH SWEIGART along with AMY & ANDREW GREEN, LETISHA & CARLOS DE LA TORRE, LISA & RENEE GALLIZZO, JANET CUPOLO and PETER FRECHIE, among others. ...

Former breeder, professional handler, mentor and all-around good guy WENDELL SAMMET is now in hospice care. Few in this business enjoyed the success, longevity and popularity as WENDELL. His successes with Dalmatians and Poodles are as impressive as the clients who wanted WENDELL to present their dogs and in some cases oversee their breeding programs. While most know of his friendly, kind and gentle demeanor, few know that he was a prisoner of war in the second world war and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was such a presence that even to this day, attending a dog show in the Northeast you expect to see him. I hope this time is a peaceful one for him, and we all send our love and good wishes to him.

All of us at DOG NEWS were saddened to hear that Non-Sporting group judge CARL GOMES has passed away. Our deepest sympathies to his family.
