On the heels of the WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB’S announcement that they are moving back into Manhattan — with daytime judging at the Javits Center and group and Best in Show judging on Monday and Tuesday evenings at Madison Square Garden — comes word that the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB will once again hold its two-day MEET THE BREEDS on Saturday and Sunday, January 25 and 26. Last year, more than 30,000 visitors attended over the two days — an audience that is greater than any other Meet The Breeds held around the country. It’s a great outing for any dog lover to acquaint themselves with a particular breed of their own interest. ...
For those of you interested in dogs represented in several different art forms, the AKC MUSEUM OF THE DOG has announced its Virtual + membership program. The program will open the museum’s programing nationally. It will offer access to at least four virtual programs a year that will include art classes, live-streamed visits and tours of the museum’s collection with curator ALAN FAUSEL. Also included is unlimited admission to the museum for one year with their membership card and priority notice for events and subscription to their newsletter. Membership is $50 and is tax deductible. ...
The AKC CANINE HEALTH FOUNDATION and the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB have announced the first recipients of the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB/ AKC CANINE HEALTH FOUNDATION CANINE SPORTS MEDICINE & REHABILITATION RESIDENCY PROGRAM. Launched in February of this year, the program will increase the number of specialists trained to meet the needs of athletic and working dogs. The first two recipients are the COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY’S SMALL ANIMAL ORTHOPEDIC MEDICINE AND MOBILITY SERVICE and the PENN VET’S CANINE SPORTS AND PERFORMANCE MEDICINE SERVICE.
DR. STEPHANIE MONTGOMERY, chief executive officer of the CANINE HEALTH FOUNDATION, was quoted: “We are thrilled to support two top tier programs dedicated to training the next generation of specialists in canine sports medicine and rehabilitation.” It should be noted that the GOLDEN RETRIEVER FOUNDATION provided funds that moved this project forward. Each school will receive $100,000 annually to support a three-year residency. Additional goals include adding support to new residency programs every year. ...
Well-known Poodle breeder and Working, Non-Sporting and Toy group judge DORIS COZART has passed away. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at the Robson Ranch Club House, 9428 Ed Robson Circle, Denton, Texas.
