Brazil welcomes World Dog Show, AKC welcomes two new Miscellaneous breeds

For JOANNE SCHULLIER, MARY HARRIS, HOLLY MCKAY, PAT FOOSE, DESI MURPHY, EDUARDO PARIS and others traveling to the WORLD DOG SHOW in Sao Paulo, Brazil, it’s not too late to get online and read an article, 36 HOURS SAO PAULO, in the Saturday, December 3, 2022, Travel section of THE NEW YORK TIMES. It gives you suggestions on where to stay, eat and visit in a 36-hour period. ...

Speaking about places to stay, Manhattan’s STEWART HOTEL (Affinia, among other former names), a mainstay for the WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB, will now also become a mega-shelter for the influx of migrant families coming to New York City. The 600 migrants to be given housing are mostly from Venezuela. So if you have reservations there for the May WESTMINSTER dog show, you might want to reconfirm. ...

Well done to AKC REUNITE, which has donated its 100th Pet Disaster Relief Trailer. Monies are raised in collaboration with the American Kennel Club along with dog clubs around the country and local contributions. The 100th trailer, given to the Wayne and Pike County Animal Response Team, was made possible by donations from the KENNEL CLUB OF PHILADELPHIA, the HARRISBURG KENNEL CLUB and the PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI CLUB OF AMERICA. The trailer was dedicated to the late PAT LAURANS, who served as a co-chair of this REUNITE program. ...

Here’s a double tongue twister for you: JAPANESE AKITAINU and RUSSIAN TSVETNAYA BOLONKA. These two new breeds will be joining the Miscellaneous Group on January 1, 2023. Not so sure about the Russian breed, as I thought the American Kennel Club was not registering Russian-bred dogs during this Ukrainian crisis. ...

Our thoughts and best wishes to multiple group judge DAVID ANTHONY, who is undergoing a stem-cell transplant at the UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. While he undergoes this treatment, friends can send cards to him at the above hospital at 5230 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232. The dog world was stunned by the sudden and unexpected passing of PATRICK GUILFOYLE. PATRICK wore many hats in the sport — handler, publisher, editor, Poodle breeder and Azawakh fancier who along with his loving wife PIPPI brought the breed into the spotlight. All-around popular and entertaining figure, he will be missed by his many friends. All of us at DOG NEWS send our deepest sympathies to PIPPI and family. ...

Sad news from GREG ANDERSON that his father, multiple group judge CARL ANDERSON, passed away two days shy of his 97th birthday. CARL and his late wife ROSALIE were married for 65 years. They were popular judges and were very active in clubs in Southern California. All of us at DOG NEWS send GREG and his brother, sister and family our deepest sympathies. ...
