AKC recognizes Capitol Police canines, Eddy Awards reward breeder education

The AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB has recognized the U.S. CAPITOL POLICE K-9 UNIT with the AKC CANINE OFFICER PROGRAM AWARD. The Capitol Police Canine Unit has protected government agencies for more than 50 years, keeping a watchful over presidents and other dignitaries as well as the Capitol grounds. ...

The AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB has also announced that applications for their EDDY AWARD are now open until September 1. The EDDY AWARD is given to parent clubs that offer unique breeder education. The parent clubs are divided into four tiers, based on the size of their membership program. Congratulations and best wishes to KARISSA & REMY SMITH-LEWIS on the birth of their son THEODORE DAVID on Thursday, June 26, weighing in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces, and 20 inches long. This year’s judges include LORAN MORGAN, Sporting Group; SUSAN LACROIX HAMIL, Hound Group; LINDA CLARK, Working Group; PEGGY BROWN, Terrier Group; PATTY PROCTOR, Toy Group; ARNE FOSS, Non-Sporting Group; DALE HECK, Herding Group, and the two Best in Showcase judges, LAUREN PICHARD and FRANK KANE. ...

Another sign that things are getting back to normal, the new normal: The annual meeting of the MORRIS & ESSEX KENNEL CLUB will return to a live, in-person meeting on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the NEW YORKER HOTEL. The NEW YORKER is the last of the three most popular hotels across the street from the Garden. The HOTEL PENNSYLVANIA is being razed and a new office tower is in the plans, and the STEWART HOTEL has been turned into a shelter for the homeless. It would be a good idea to try and confirm rooms at the NEW YORKER even at this early date. It will no doubt fill up quickly, given its convenient location to both the JAVITS CENTER and MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. ...

All of us at DOG NEWS send our deepest sympathies to Great Pyrenees breeder and exhibitor KAREN JUSTIN on the loss of her beloved father.
