NEW YORK CITY has always had the reputation of a dog lover’s paradise. From availability of health care with the world-famous ANIMAL MEDICAL CENTER to the hundreds of day-care, grooming and dog-walking companies that line the streets and avenues, we are a caring and loving group of owners who would do anything for the health and comfort of our dogs. New Yorkers are not unique in this: Dog lovers span the length and breadth of our country. But a new amendment, number 1089 proposed by New York City councilman SHAUN ABREU, would amend the city’s Earned Safe and Sick Time Act to include sick time for the care of a companion or service dog in need of medical diagnosis, treatment of a physical illness or surgery. It doesn't seem out of line when you consider that approximately two-thirds of American households own a pet, according to the AMERICAN PET PRODUCTS ASSOCIATION. ...
Anyone who has watched the hugely popular PBS television show ANTIQUES ROADSHOW knows that ALAN FAUSEL is one of the painting appraisers on the show. ALAN is also the adjunct curator of the AKC MUSEUM OF THE DOG. Would it not be a marvelous addition to MEET THE BREEDS to have him appraise the public’s paintings as a way of introducing the museum to the general public? Maybe even get a painting or two donated. ...
