1. Do you have any dog-show superstitions?
Yes, I never let anyone put my exhibitor number on me! Bad luck! I always put my own numbers on.
2. TV-show guilty pleasure?
I don’t get a lot of TV time these days, but … “Stranger Things,” “The Flash,” “Mandalorian.”
3. If you were president of AKC for one day, what would you do?
One day wouldn’t be enough! I, like many involved in the sport of showing dogs, would probably try to “fix” as many things as possible in the conformation policies and procedures to get more active involvement nationwide.
4. Most valued material possession?
Mmmm, my dogs, of course!
5. What is something no one would guess about you?
I’m a musician.
6. Who would you compare yourself to?
No one, really. But I’ve been told I look like Enrique Iglesias and Freddy Mercury.
7. What are you “famous” for?
Definitely nothing, but most people know me as “The Boerboel Guy.”
8. What website do you visit most often?
Google, because I don’t have all the answers!
9. What was more memorable, your most satisfying win or disappointing defeat? And what was it?
Oh, boy, I feel like I remember all the losses! And I definitely have several memorable wins. I think being still somewhat of a “newcomer,” my wins all still hold a very dear place to me.
I remember being in Orlando on Working dog day, and during our breed judging, our judge asked me and another exhibitor to bring our specials out and move them around together, then let them free-stack. My male special wasn’t much for the free stack, so I was nervous as could be! Not to mention the other exhibitor was a very tenured handler and known for their success in my breed. We did our go-around and free-baited. And ANOTHER time around, and he free-baited!
The judge pointed at my dog, and my legs felt like Jell-O!
10. What do you wish someone would ask you?
“Would you like that in large bills?”
All jokes aside, I think any question is welcome. You never know what someone may come back with. Maybe you learn something new. Or even better, maybe you’ll form a lifelong connection? And how cool is that?!
