Westminster and Greenwich, food recalls, Jim Briley and Don Sutton pass

No person or event has avoided the twists and turns that the Covid-19 virus has thrown toward us. Due to the change of date and other variables for their Saturday/Sunday, June 12th & 13th dog show, the WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB has updated their judging panel. In addition to these changes, four newly recognized breeds, the Barbet, Belgian Laekenois, Dogo Argentino and Biewer Terrier, will compete for the first time at this show. The GREENWICH KENNEL CLUB will also be hosting several breed specialties on Saturday/Sunday, June 12th & 13th. Those breed specialties will be held on the opposite day of when their breeds are judged at WESTMINSTER. It’s a new world, people. ...

I must admit that watching a dog show on television is not high on my list of things to do. But I was very pleased that the AKC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW PRESENTED BY ROYAL CANIN was televised this past Sunday for three hours on the ABC network. A great opportunity for the public to see purebred dogs with their owners and handlers together in what is a great family sport. I’ll pass on the critique except to say MARY CARILLO redux. Was I watching an old rerun of Westminster, Philadelphia, Beverly Hills, the AKC show? Surely there are other talking heads who can do the job. ...

Like we don’t have enough health issues to worry about … a report from Sweden studied the ratio of dogs that have diabetes to those of their owners. Dog owners whose dogs were diabetic were 32% more likely to develop diabetes than those dog owners whose dogs were healthy. ...
