Orlando numbers are in, first female AKC president Judith Daniels passes

The AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB has announced entry totals for the Orlando weekend. The press release, which is geared to the general public, has cumulative totals; for example, they add up the entire week for a total of 8,540 entries. The AKC show itself boasts 5,051 entries, but that includes 1,096 Bred-By Exhibitors in competition, and 142 competing in Junior Showmanship, which by my calculation is 3,813 dogs in competition. Leading numerically in competition are 141 Golden Retrievers, 130 Australian Shepherds, 89 Labrador Retrievers, 85 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, 67 Whippets, 66 French Bulldogs, 62 Chinese Crested, 58 Pomeranians and two varieties having the largest entries with 94 Dachshunds and 58 Collies. The Friday Puppy and Junior Stakes numbers 1,395 entries. For the two-day AKC Obedience Classic there are 248 teams with 13 Junior Obedience entries, and 676 entries in the AKC Agility Invitational Competition with 77 Junior Agility entries. All and all, a great entry for the weeklong cluster. ...

Judge and delegate JUDITH DANIELS, the first woman to be elected to the office of President of the American Kennel Club by the board of directors at their March annual meeting, passed away on November 18. Our deepest sympathies to her husband BILL and family. ...

This was the first dog show HARRY has attended in some time, owing to the last year, in which he lost both his parents and suffered some health issues. ...
