AKC Humane fund offers scholarships for dog-loving collegians

We were saddened to hear that DICK KORN of RUMBO PET SUPPLIES lost all his merchandise in a fire in the trailer he was towing on the way home from the Perry, Georgia, dog shows this past weekend. The bright side is that DICK is OK. We are proud to say that DICK'S RUMBO PET SUPPLIES stand, which is a staple at the dog shows in Florida and the South, is a distributor of DOG NEWS. All of us at wish him great speed in getting back to the dog shows very soon. ...

The AKC HUMANE FUND announced that applications for the JOHN D. SPURLING, KCVO OBE Scholarship are now available for 2022. Five full-time students enrolled in classes that advance dog well-being and responsible pet ownership will be chosen. Each recipient will receive $2,000, payable as tuition to their respective learning institution. The scholarship is named in honor of JOHN, the founder of PETPARTNERS, the pet-insurance company providing affordable pet insurance across the country. To apply, visit www.akchumanefund.org/programs. These scholarships that have been created by the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB are a great help in defraying the cost of a good college education. The kennel club should be congratulated for establishing any and all programs directed toward the youth in our sport, as they are the future caretakers on whose shoulders this sport will be carried. ...

Not responding to phone calls, he was found passed away at his home in Washington State. We send our deepest sympathies to his family. Westminster has announced that ALVIN W. ENG has been chosen to replace CHRISTOPHER CORNELL to judge the Masters Obedience Championship at their dog show. ...

Now New York Assembly member LINDA ROSENTHAL, representing Manhattan, and New York Senate Deputy Majority leader MICHAEL GIANARIS, who represents the borough of Queens, have advanced a bill that will end the retail sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in New York pet shops. The PUPPY MILL PIPELINE BILL awaits New York Governor KATHY HOCHEL’S signature. ...

Many of you will be packing up and heading to New York for the upcoming WESTMINSTER KENNEL CLUB. As fellow New Yorkers, we at DOG NEWS wish you all safe travels and the best of luck at the dog show. See you there; come by our booth to say hello.
