10 QUESTIONS …
Profession: Federal education policy advisor
Dog-sport involvement: Breeder/owner/handler/judge/club member
Hometown: Houston, Texas (part time Colorado)
Astrological sign: Aries
1. Do you have any dog-show superstitions?
I’m not superstitious, and I try to avoid having too many rituals, but three rubber bands for my armband is one of my rituals.
2. TV-show guilty pleasure?
Lately it’s “True Detective.” I’m on season two. Loved season one.
3. If you were president of AKC for one day, what would you do?
Add energy and resources to the mentoring program and establish a mentoring/welcoming program at all-breed shows. Dog shows can be intimidating, opaque and feel exclusive to the average person who is new to them.
4. Most valued material possession?
Aside from my dogs, my vehicle. I take for granted how much freedom it affords me.
5. What is something no one would guess about you?
I was once a bike courier in Boston.
6. Who would you compare yourself to?
I don’t typically compare myself to anyone, but there was a time when people confused me with Roxanne Sutton. Maybe that’s why she went blond. ;-)
7. What are you “famous” for?
Breeding and showing Vizslas and my sour-cream cheesecake. I’m also very much a “why not?” person.
8. What website do you visit most often?
9. What was more memorable, your most satisfying win or disappointing defeat? And what was it?
Satisfying wins for sure. I don’t dwell on the losses. Finishing my very first champion was sooo satisfying. She taught me about how important it is to be a team and make sure the dog is deriving some pleasure out of the showing game. Winning a huge Owner-Handled group in Orlando under a Hungarian judge was epic. And winning my breed’s national specialty this year takes the cake.
10. What do you wish someone would ask you?
“Would you like my lobster? I won’t eat it.”
